Houses – All Night

  • December 1, 2010

Chicago-based duo Dexter Tortoriello and Megan Messina, besides both having incredibly cool names, create some pretty great laid back dream pop with All Night. Written almost entirely in one week in Hawaii, Tortoriello and Messina use ambient beats, chilled out melodies and low-key vocals that all come together on this truly enjoyable album. This is music that should be enjoyed into the wee hours of the night, and it’s hard not to like the album’s restrained style. “Soak It Up” is probably their poppiest track with an addicting beat and simple lyrics while “Medicine” uses a series of blips and Tortoriello’s soft vocals that make the perfect song to listen to in the crisp early morning dawn after a late night out. It’s good stuff, and these two are clearly a talented pair. – Written by DBosket
