Hurricane Bells – Down Comes the Rain EP

  • September 29, 2010

Hurricane Bells, the side project of Steve Schlitz of the shoegaze band Longwave, has a new EP, Down Comes the Rain, comprising three new songs and two covers. What started as a low-key side project resulted in a track “Monsters” appearing on the platinum-selling New Moon soundtrack (which, yes, I admit had some good songs) and a subsequent full-length release of Tonight Is The Ghost. This latest set of songs is for the most part, laid back indie power-pop with a non-threatening Death Cab for Cutie vibe. “The Waiting Song” is particularly pretty, with lively guitar that skates along Schlitz’s soft vocals. The two covers of East River Pipe’s “In the Deep End” and The Shirelles’ “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” are also good, but Hurricane Bells seems to shine more with their original material. – Written by DBosket
