James Houlahan – The Wheel Still in Spin

  • January 31, 2019

L.A. based singer/songwriter James Houlahan is still reveling in the wonder and imagination of the record-making process. His new LP, The Wheel Still in Spin, drifts through varied states of being, evoking the stillness against the constant motion embodied in that strange optical phenomenon of the wagon-wheel effect, where a spoked wheel’s spin appears to cut opposite its actual rotation. Standout tracks include: the wistful opening track “Let it Go”; “Faded”, which features a guest appearance from Esther Clark; the psych-folk interpretation of Gregory Corso’s poem “Spirit/Music” alongside Linda Perhacs; the tender road song “All I’ve Got”; the contemplative Eric Clapton-esque “Memories of Outer Space”; a cover of Joe Ely’s classic “Indian Cowboy”; and the the sparse closing track, “California.” James Houlahan is an emerging talent in the world of folk; pick-up his gorgeous record The Wheel Still in Spin. – Written by JFelton
