Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit – The Nashville Sound

  • July 3, 2017

Jason Isbell’s sixth album, The Nashville Sound, follows-up 2015’s acclaimed Something More Than Free with a more rocking and eclectic mix of songs. The ten song collection features Isbell’s vivid storytelling and southern gothic perspective along with a more full-band electric sound than the intimate acoustic-based sounds found on his past few albums. Album highlights include: the gentle country folk song “Last of My Kind”; the aggressive rocker “Cumberland Gap”; “Tupelo” – a country folk song about Elvis’ birthplace; the socio-political “White Man’s World”; the jangly psychedelic country folk track “Molotov”; and the anthemic country rocker “Hope the High Road.” While the overall pacing could use some minor tweaks, all in all The Nashville Sound is another great Jason Isbell album! – Written by JFelton
