Jerry David DeCicca – Time the Teacher

  • February 25, 2018

Former Black Swans frontman and singer/songwriter Jerry David DeCicca’s new album is both inspired by a youth spent in the Midwest and his new home in Texas Hill Country. In some respects, DeCicca’s latest collection is a different take on the theme of rebirth, a concept that is pervasive in Black Swans’ 2012 Occasion for Song and DeCicca’s 2014 solo debut LP, Understanding Land. Only this time, DeCicca reflections resonate through home and place, underscoring and expressing his reflections through thoughtful folk songs driven by vocals, acoustic guitar, piano, and saxophone. Standouts include: the simple shimmering beauty of “Watermelon”; the thoughtful observational vignette, “Grandma’s Tattoo”; the lovely “Woodpecker”; the tender “Walls of My Heart”; and the heavy-hearted reflection, “Kiss a Love Goodbye.” Time The Teacher is an achingly beautiful record that pays tribute to its creator’s new home and the simple things in life that we often overlook. – Written by JFelton
