New Zealand duo Laneway is Paul Hannan and Louise O’Reilly, and they follow-up their 2009 debut If You Don’t Need It Let It Go with the stellar alt-country album, Turn Your Love Up. A labor of love three years in the making, the ten original tracks explore many facets of love through a rich swath of instrumentation like guitar (acoustic, electric, and slide), bass, drums, harmonica, and even an organ. Filled with haunting harmonies and the warm vocals of O’Reilly as well as stunning duets with Hannan, standout tracks include opener “Love Is A Devil”, “Mine Eye”, and “Waiting For An Avalanche.” Laneway recently worked in Berlin for a two month stint as the prizewinners of the local Grant McLennan Memorial Fellowship for 2012 and are following-up with a European tour before returning home. – Written by SMarx
