Lorkin O’Reilly – Heaven Depends

  • October 24, 2018

Heaven Depends is the debut record from Poughkeepsie, NY based Scottish singer/songwriter Lorkin O’Reilly. Since immigrating to the U.S. from Scotland in 2014, O’Reilly has slowly been making a name for himself as a talented new young singer/songwriter. O’Reilly blends traditional country/folk elements and open tunings (common in traditional Irish and Scottish music a la Bert Jansch, Nick Drake) with his own experiences, self-contemplation and poetic lyricism. Heaven Depends explores themes of becoming an adult, home, and self-identity and is set to beautiful finger-picked acoustic guitar with the occasional accompaniment by piano, harmonium or fiddle. Notable tracks include: the beautifully emotive “Huckleberry Finn” inspired by childhood memories; the somber yet beautiful “Ireland”; the rambling travel song “Landscapes”; the stunning heartbreaker “Ribcage”; and the closing track and ode to his new home, “Poughkeepsie.” Heaven Depends is a gorgeous debut album that showcases a talented young musician. – Written by JFelton
