Lost Dog Street Band – Weight of a Trigger

  • December 17, 2019

Ashley Mae (vocals, fiddle). Formed in Nashville in 2010, the two-piece follows in the tradition of nomadic musicians like Woody Guthrie who got around by train hopping and hitchhiking. The Weight of a Trigger is their fifth studio album and it offers a glimpse into a time when American music was filled musicians who were contemplative outlaws seeking salvation via song. The ten-track collection features traditional American music, Appalachian folk, redemptive country blues, and captivating balladry. Complete with an honest combination of heartache and soul, the collection evokes through harmonies, pedal steel guitar, violin, and other fingerpicked wonders. Album standouts include: the rollicking opening track “To Heaven from Here”; the honest and raw “Terrible and True”; the plucky lullaby “Bring Back Someday”; the reflective woebegone track “War Inside Of Me”; the unhurried tune “Lazy Moonshiner”; and the tearjerker and closing track “Just To Say Goodbye.” Every song on Lost Dog Street Band’s Weight of a Trigger is strong with polished songwriting and musicianship. – Written by JFelton
