Margot and The Nuclear So and So’s – Buzzard

  • September 23, 2010

Margot and the Nuclear So and So’s are back with their third full-length release, Buzzard. This Indianapolis-based band is perhaps best known for their fracas with Epic Records two years ago, which included the band releasing Animal! at the same time as Epic’s version, called Not Animal!. So it’s probably for the best that this band, led by frontman Richard Edwards, has gone back to the indie world. The album starts off with the mid-tempo “Birds,” which alternates between melodic piano guitar-fueled choruses. And listening to tracks like “Let’s Paint Our Teeth Green” and “Claws Off,” it’s hard not to think about Weezer or even The Lemonheads. Buzzard has a slight college rock grunge tinge to it that is very appealing in a year full of Vampire Weekend knockoffs. This is a great album to keep in rotation for the fall. – Written by DBosket
