Michigan Rattlers – Evergreen

  • December 13, 2018

The L.A. based Michigan Rattlers follow-up their 2016 self-titled debut EP with their first full-length record, Evergreen. The Michigan Rattlers are comprised of Graham Young (guitar), Adam Reed (upright bass), and Christian Wilder (piano), who have all been friends ever since their high school days in Northern Michigan. Evergreen is a great set of heavy-hearted Americana/roots rock with a dash of Midwestern flair. To quote the band, “Evergreen is about the fear of letting something slip through your fingers before you’ve had a chance to hold it in your hands and really appreciate it for everything it’s worth….It’s about trying to understand that things move from the future into the present, and then into the past so quickly. But knowing that the past is just as present as today and tomorrow.” Standout tracks include: the melodic opener “Just Good Night”; the breezy lead single “Didn’t You Know”; an interesting take on a well-used country trope with “Drinking Song”; the Dwight Yoakam-esque “Late Night Cigarette Talks”; the contemplative and heartfelt number “I Remember”; the reflective title-track; and the poignant “Sweet Diane.” Evergreen is an excellent album from a talented group of young musicians and will hook you into repeated listens almost immediately, resonating with both fans and new audiences alike. – Written by JFelton
