Miss Tess – The Moon is an Ashtray

  • April 17, 2020

Nashville based singer-songwriter Miss Tess follows-up her 2016 release, Baby, We All Know, with The Moon is an Ashtray – another great mash-up of vintage blues and jazz instrumentation accompanied by smoky, emotive vocals. The Moon Is an Ashtray was recorded at the Bombshelter in Nashville and co-produced by Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes, Banditos) along with Miss Tess herself and her longtime musical partner Thomas Bryan Eaton. Standout tracks include: the Spanish guitar styled “The Truth Is”; the raucous honky tonk number “I Wanna Be a Cowboy”; a cover of 40’s western singer Patsy Montana’s “I Wanna be a Cowboy’s Sweetheart”; the Bob Dylan-esque “Gamblin’ Man”; the love ballad “Take It Easy”; the Racheal Price (Lake Street Dive) duet “True Flood”; and the Mississippi Hill Country Blues inspired “Sugarbabe.” Miss Tess’ The Moon is an Ashtray is a great album that has the warmth of old-time music with 21st-century sass. – Written by JFelton
