The Missing Season – The Missing Season EP

  • February 23, 2011

The Missing Season is an indie-folk band from Rennes, France, that mixes easy-going alt-country with interesting harmonizing and judicious use of slide guitar. The vocals can be a little mumbly, but that also lends an oddly likable quality on “I Swear,” which also includes some nice little whistling interludes (and this writer is a sucker for whistling). Opening track “If It Wasn’t For My Friends” is a slow and dreamy ballad that is refreshingly not about a woman or a dying relationship, but about friendship. “New Sun” has a faster tempo and injects some much-needed energy in the middle of the EP, while closing song “The Greatest Unknown” has a great old-timey sound. These guys released a full-length in 2007 called The Secret Map, and The Missing Season EP is available as a free download from their website. – Written by DBosket
