Parker Millsap – The Very Last Day

  • May 3, 2016

Young Oklahoma singer/songwriter Parker Millsap released the follow-up to 2014’s critically acclaimed self-titled album with The Very Last Day. The latest was co-produced with Grammy Award-winning engineer Gary Paczosa (John Prine, Alison Krauss, Dolly Parton) and recorded at Dockside Studio in Louisiana alongside bandmates Daniel Foulks (fiddle), Michael Rose (bass), and Paddy Ryan (drums), with guest vocalists Sarah Jarosz, Sara Watkins and Aoife O’Donovan. Once again Millsap captivates with his smart narratives, universal themes, and weathered vocals against a backdrop of bigger and lusher sounds filled with percussion, piano and electric guitar. Highlights include: the tale of acceptance in “Heaven Sent”; the mythological “Hades Pleads”; the rocking title track; the cover of the blues/gospel standard “You Gotta Move”; and the folk-pop number “Jealous Sun.” Parker Millsap avoids the sophomore slump with another Americana gem. – Written by JFelton
