PVT – Church With No Magic

  • September 17, 2010

Australian trio, PVT, formerly a five-piece called Pivot, have a new album, Church With No Magic. After 2008’s O Soundtrack My Heart, the group reduced in size and changed their name due to legal issues. This indie band excels at playing terrifyingly intense electro that has massive drums, plenty of synths, and Richard Pike’s flexible vocals. The album opens with “Community,” a brief track that layers chanting over rippling synths. This may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but by the time I got to track 3, the title track, damn it if I wasn’t tapping my toe to this song’s infectious dance beat and enjoying Pike’s echoing vocals. Shades of Portishead, Brian Eno, and Vangelis can be heard on Church With No Magic. This is an album for those looking for unpredictable, high energy electronic that is a big on drama. – Written by DBosket
