S.G. Goodman – Old Time Feeling

  • May 26, 2020

Western Kentucky native and singer/songwriter S.G. Goodman’s debut record Old Time Feeling showcases her soaring ethereal vocals alongside gritty guitars, steamy southern grooves, and melancholic singer/songwriter folk songwriting and delivery. Goodman went from singing in church to becoming a noted member of the Murray, KY music scene and an impassioned voice in local political and social movements. Old Time Feeling captures Goodman’s empathy for the struggles of the rural working class. The LP was produced by fellow Kentucky native Jim James (My Morning Jacket) who helped Goodman refine her sound and get the album out into the world. Album highlights include: the contemplative love song “Space and Time”; the intense socio-political number “The Way I Talk”; the beautiful single “Red Bird Morning”; the Biblical referencing “Burn Down The City”; the Neil Young-infused “If It Ain’t Me Babe”; and the heartbreaker “The Tender Kind.” S.G. Goodman’s Old Time Feeling is one of the best albums of the year, delivering a nice dose of tenderness and hard truths. I’m really looking forward to more music from this young talent. – Written by JFelton
