Still Corners – The Last Exit

  • April 5, 2021

The Still Corners are comprised of British singer Tessa Murray and American songwriter and producer Greg Hughes and they follow-up 2018’s Slow Air with their fifth release The Last Exit – a sunbaked dream-pop collection of songs. According to the band, The Last Exit is meant to evoke “something eternal in the landscape and in our psyche.” The album is filled with songs about lost highways, bad towns, and being lost in the desert, while focusing on themes of vulnerability, mortality, and self-isolation. Notable tracks include: the shimmering opening title track; the apocalyptic themed “Static”; a haunting heartbreaker “Crying”; the twangy, folk-noir ballad “Bad Town”; the spectral synth-pop of “White Sands”; the slow-burning instrumental “Till We Meet Again”; the 50’s blues-tinged rocker “It’s Voodoo”; and the cinematic closer “Old Arcade.” Still Corners’ The Last Exit is a hazy and captivating album that showcases Greg Hughes’ cinematic production talents and Tessa Murray’s gorgeous vocals. – Written by JFelton
