Strand of Oaks – Eraserland

  • June 5, 2019

Singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Timothy Showalter (a.k.a Strand of Oaks) follows-up the critically acclaimed 2017 release Hard Love with Eraserland – a dynamic collection of personal and reflective songs that combine spaced out indie rock with elements of heartland and psych rock. Here Showalter performs live in sound engineer Kevin Ratterman’s Louisville studio with My Morning Jacket (minus Jim James) as his backing band. Notable tracks include: the heartbreaking opening track “Weird Ways”; the stunning standout “Visions”; the upbeat, open-hearted “Ruby”; the Bowie-esque “Hyperspace Blues”; the tribute to AC/DC’s Malcolm Young on “Moon Landing”; and the transcendent/hopeful closing track, “Forever Chords.” Eraserland is one of Showalter’s best albums; they keep get getting better-and-better, making this one his most accessible album to date. – Written by JFelton
