The Black Keys – Let’s Rock

  • August 11, 2019

The Black Keys return after a five-year hiatus with their 9th studio album, Let’s Rock. The album’s title comes from the final words uttered by Edmund Zagorski, the first man executed by electric chair in Tennessee in over a decade – hence the album’s cover art. Let’s Rock was recorded in Dan Auerbach’s (guitar, vocals) Nashville studio, Easy Eye Sound with all songs written spontaneously on site along with the other half of the duo, Patrick Carney (drums). The result is an album where The Black Keys strip away all the extras and experimentation from the last few albums, marking a return to their garage-rock days. Album highlights include: the rocker about the perils of dating on “Shine a Little Light”; the slow-burning yet measured “Walk Across the Water”; the smoking track “Lo/Hi”; the Fleetwood Mac-esque “Tell Me Lies”; and the somewhat folksy ballad “Sit Around and Miss You.” Let’s Rock is a feel-good record that lets the good times roll and showcases what the Black Keys do best: rock! – Written by JFelton
