Peoria, IL natives by way of Brooklyn, The Brother Brothers (Adam and David Moss) follow-up their acclaimed 2017 Tugboats EP and 2018’s Some People I Know with their sophomore full-length, Calla Lily. Invoking ’60s-era folk, Calla Lily is beautiful, poignant, and humble, filled with sparse yet polished musicianship, warm harmonies, and brilliant songwriting. Thematically the LP is about movement and progression, be it the impermanence of life, rambling from one place to the next or something as straightforward as the changing of the seasons. Produced and mixed by Grammy-nominated Ryan Hadlock (The Lumineers, Brandi Carlile), Calla Lily was recorded at Bear Creek Studios in Woodinville, Washington, and mastered by Grammy-nominated Phillip Shaw Bova (Andy Shauf, Father John Misty). Notable album tracks include: a song about the eagerness to get back out “On the Road Again”; a stirring love song about a new love and NYC “The Calla Lily Song”; the somber standout track “Sorrow”; a slightly melancholic track about wishing for luck to change “Waiting for A Star to Fall”; the atmospheric instrumental “A Poquito Doina”; the country-tinged “Seein’ Double”; the James Taylor-esque “The Chase”; and the warm closing track.
