The Cactus Blossoms – Easy Way

  • June 6, 2019

Minneapolis brothers Page Burkum and Jack Torrey (a.k.a. The Cactus Blossoms) follow-up the acclaimed You’re Dreaming with Easy Way – another excellent set of 1950’s and 60’s Everly Brothers type retro pop sounds. For Easy Way, Page and Jack self-produced the album and also added another family member, Tyler Burkum (guitar/bass). Other special contributions include: Dan Auerbach (Black Keys) who co-wrote two tracks, plus Michael Lewis (Bon Iver, Andrew Bird) on saxophone and Joel Paterson (Devil in a Woodpile) on pedal steel. Standout tracks include: the shuffling opening track “Desperado”; the doo-wop tinged “Blue As the Ocean”; the upbeat “Downtown”; the co-written Dan Auerbach song “Got a Lotta Love”; and the Orbison-esque “Please Don’t Call Me Crazy.” The Cactus Blossoms have released another striking album that is on par with the albums by those who influenced their sound; Easy Way is a sure-fire hit. – Written by JFelton
