William Elliott Whitmore – Kilonova

  • September 21, 2018

Iowa based singer/songwriter William Elliott Whitmore’s music is not only influenced by the hardcore punk scene of his youth but also by blues, country and folk. Whitmore ‘s seventh album honors the musicians who have influenced his career thus far resulting in Kilonova: a collection of ten covers from an eclectic mix of American music spanning 90+ years. Standout tracks include: the 1920’s Dock Boggs classic “Country Blues”; a stripped down version of Bill Wither’s hit “Ain’t No Sunshine”; the Magnetic Fields’ song “Fear of Trains”; a bluesy version of Harlon Howard’s “Busted”; a gospel-inflected version of ZZ Top’s “Hot, Blue and Righteous”; a banjo interpretation of Bad Religion’s “Don’t Pray On Me”; and an interesting take on Captain Beefheart’s “Bat Chain Puller.” Kilonova is an engaging collection of songs from a variety of different music styles in which Whitmore showcases his ability to skillful interpret each song in his own way while honoring the originals. – Written by JFelton
