The Leisure Society – The Sleeper

  • February 8, 2010

The Sleeper, the first full-length release from British group The Leisure Society, is well worth the praise this album has already received over the past year or so. Original members Nick Hemming and Christian Hardy (they have since added a full band) use a multitude of instruments, including ukulele, glockenspiel, violin, and maracas, that add to the group’s nostalgic folk sound. Hemming’s vocals swing up and down in a slow, deliberate manner that gives each song a wistful quality. Song “The Last of the Melting Snow” starts with simple guitar and piano, and then adds in flute and violin to create a lush landscape. It’s a beautiful album to listen to on a lazy Sunday. – Written by DBosket
