Bonnie “Prince” Billy – Wolfroy Goes to Town

  • October 17, 2011

Prolific singer/songwriter Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy (Will Oldham) recently released the sparse and lovely studio album Wolfroy Goes to Town. The album’s title is named after a Lori Damiano painting depicting a bundled-up outdoorsman leading a pack of wolves into a distant town, and it is at that intersection where isolation, struggle, wilderness, community and spirituality meet, that inspires Oldham’s ten tracks. Wandering but not rambling, the spare acoustic guitar backed tracks are rooted in Oldham’s exquisitely insightful and intensely intimate lyrics and delivery. Supporting Oldham’s quietly commanding lead is Cairo Gang regular Emmett Kelly (guitar, vocals) and Angel Olsen (backing vocals and harmonies). Fans of Oldham’s early folk will readily embrace this latest addition to his lush and diverse discography. – Written by JFelton
