Baltimore based slowcore band Small Sur has returned with their sophomore release, Labor – one of the most beautiful albums this year. Since their debut, the band expanded to include Dave Hadley (pedal steel) and Andy Stack (of Wye Oak – bass), who join Bob Keal, Austin Stahl and Andy Abelow. Labor is another superb release filled with top-notch writing poetic vignettes which compliment the style and pace of the instrumentation perfectly. Standouts include a set of stunningly beautiful songs about the sea (“The Salt”, “Bloomington”, and “Through The Blue”) as well as the title track about the promises of love.
