Caribou – Swim

  • June 2, 2010

Electronic dance music gets exceptional treatment on Swim, the new release from Caribou (formerly known as Manitoba). According to Caribou’s Dan Snaith, this latest album is meant to reflect the fluidity of swimming, an activity he’s picked up since 07’s Andorra. But rather than give the feeling of the outdoors and water, Swim’s flow sounds more at home indoors. The album starts off with the brilliant “Odessa,” which contains a pitch-perfect balance of looping sounds, thumping beats, and Snaith’s modest vocals. The tracks transition smoothly from one to the next, and each song has its own complex blend of sounds and beats that make Swim an ideal album to keep playing on repeat. – Written by DBosket
