The current incarnation of Brooklyn’s Sleigh Bells – Derek Miller (guitar, beats) and Alexis Krauss (vocals) – emerged in the Fall 09 when former band members went on to form Surfer Blood. Lucky for us, the pairing is amazing, with rhythmic pop songs that combine driving guitar riffs, sugary female vocals and catchy melodies. The full-length debut of the duo, Treats, is a collection of infectious indie dance pop awash in distorted drum machines, hip-hop beats, nasal guitars and in-your-face, bubbly chant-singing from Krauss. Co-released on fellow genrebending M.I.A.’s N.E.E.T. label, Sleigh Bells’ cred is quickly being established. All in all, Treats is a tight 32-minute set that is just plain fun. – Written by JFelton
