The first-rate 07 compilation Folk Music for the End of the World put out by the Calgary label Yer Bird may be a couple years old, but is new to me and I just have to share it. Folk Music for the End of the World spans a range of contemporary folk styles and orchestrations from spare singer-songwriters to experimental and full-band cuts. Notable songwriters include: Matthew Ryan, J. Tillman (Fleet Foxes), Canadian troubadour Hayden, Hezekiah Jones, Texan songwriter Blackbird Harmony, The Gunshy, Chris Bathgate, Paleo, Oweihops, Elephant Micah, and O’Death, among others.
