Spider + Octopus sounds like a campy made-for-TV movie on the Syfy Channel, but in fact, is a folk duo out of Pensacola, FL, and are not nearly as terrifying as one would expect. This is a good thing, since Chad Bishop and Renee Arozqueta really show they’ve got the chops on La Araña Está Susurrando, with a set of songs that really showcase their strong songwriting skills and rich vocals. What really stands out on this album are Bishop and Arozqueta’s ability to produce an album of primarily acoustic indie folk songs that manage to sound fresh and engaging. And trust me, this writer has listened to a lot of indie folk lately. Spider + Octopus will be touring around the country in late August and September; they’re definitely worth checking out. – Written by DBosket
