Maps and Atlases – Perch Patchwork

  • August 19, 2010

Chicago based math-rock virtuosos Maps & Atlases released two impressive EPs (Tree, Swallows, Houses and You And Me And The Mountain) before releasing their debut full length “Perch Patchwork” on the Barsuk label. Maps & Atlases – Shiraz Dada (bass), Chris Hainey (drums), Dave Davison (guitar, lead vocals), and Erin Elders (guitar) – possess a playful energy in the vein of bands like the Television, Talking Heads and TV on the Radio, which can be heard in their eclectic explorations of styles like psychedelic folk, prog, and art-rock. With upped production values under the watch of Jason Cupp (Finch, Nurses) “Perch Patchwork” weaves together intricate guitars, drums, bass lines with harmony and powerful vocals, making for a rewarding listen. – Written by JFelton
