It doesn’t sound quite right to call a band a side project if the two members have been involved with it for around a decade, but John Stirratt (bass) and Pat Sansone (multi-instrumentalist) are no ordinary musicians. Best known as part of the legendary alt-country rock band Wilco, Stirratt and Sansone are back as The Autumn Defense and their fourth full length album Once Around showcases the retro sounds of classic pop. It is refreshing to hear some of the most talented artists on the American music scene forgoing the indie folk trend of lush folk harmonies and instead playing with the melodies and traditional pop arrangements of their youth (think Byrds, late Beatles).
