The Beets – Stay Home

  • March 10, 2011

Queens four-piece The Beets are back with the follow-up to their 2009 debut, The Beets Spit In the Face of People Who Don’t Want To Be Cool. This time, Stay Home is about (surprise!) staying home, watching TV and even retreating back to the womb (as heard in “Hens and Roosters”). Sloppy, lo-fi and sounding like it came from the most savage garage in the neighborhood, The Beets have a youthful, hipster charm that, for the most part, really works. Listening to the rambling “Pops N’ Me,” one can’t help but imagine what a more polished version of this would sound like, and by the end of this musical daydream, it’s apparent that a spit-and-polish is probably the last thing The Beets need. Stay Home captures a slacker, surf-rock spirit that sounds best when it’s still rough around the edges, with shouted lyrics and DIY aesthetics. – Written by DBosket
