Belle and Sebastian – Write About Love

  • October 18, 2010

Scottish indie group Belle & Sebastian are back with their ninth album, Write About Love. The new album contains 12 tracks of twee melodies that mix ‘60s pop with clever (yet still twee) lyrics sung alternately by Murdoch and Sarah Wilson, with occasional help by Norah Jones and actress Carey Mulligan. A friend of mine used to joke that he never met a girl who didn’t like Belle & Sebastian. And while I know this isn’t entirely true, I could see what he meant. Their music has a mild-mannered niceness that is so cute that it’s hard to dislike. Write About Love starts of with Wilson’s wistful vocals in the mid-tempo melancholy “I Didn’t See It Coming” before moving into the upbeat “Come On Sister,” in which Murdoch belts out some much-needed straight talk. Chalk this up as another solid release by Murdoch & co. – Written by DBosket
