Seattle has a flourishing and vibrant bluegrass scene, and the latest pairing of multi-instrumentalists Cahalen Morrison and Eli West has the potential to bring greater recognition to this burgeoning bluegrass jam band mecca. Their debut album, The Holy Coming of the Storm finds the two deep in old-timey bluegrass with a touch of folk, producing acoustic works with backing band members Eric Thorin (bass), Ryan Drickey (fiddle), Matt Flinner (mandolin, bouzouki, guitar), and Aaron Youngberg (banjo). Recorded live at Youngberg’s Colorado studio, Morrison and West (who in addition to the above named instruments also play the clawhammer and lap slide), craft a nuanced and solid album, giving listeners a taste of the wonders of the genre. – Written by JFelton
