Callers – Life of Love

  • November 18, 2010

Shortly after Hurricane Katrina, indie trio Callers left New Orleans for Brooklyn and their latest release Life of Love features nine tracks of complex and uniquely fused blues, soul, Eastern rhythms, country, folk and rock sounds. With a DIY production set-up in bedrooms and studios involving borrowed amps and mics, Sara Lucas (vocals), Ryan Seaton (guitar) and Don Godwin (drums, horns) explore rich textures revolving around Lucas’ haunting, expansive vocals which at times conjure a young Joni Mitchell. Standout tracks include “Young People”, the title track, and a cover of Wire’s “Heartbeat”, which was the genesis for the album. – Written by JFelton
