Canteen Knockout – Broken Down Town

  • September 21, 2010

Toronto’s Canteen Knockout, the alt-country quartet fronted by multi-instrumentalist Andre Skinner (Pope Factory), received praise for their 08 debut Navajo Steel, and their latest, “Broken Down Town” proves their staying power. Broken Down Town is rich with melodic textures, poignant lyrics, and savvy production that lends itself to the band’s intimate live show approach. Top tracks include “Whiskey Drains the Pain”, “Louisiana” and “Bent Out Of Shape” and tucked in the middle is a surprisingly soaring 7+ minute cover of Gordon Lightfoot’s “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald”. This alt. country gem is definitely worth checking out. – Written by JFelton
