Gwyneth Moreland and Michael Monko – Gwyneth & Monko – are a San Francisco based indie folk team known for their old-timey acoustic sound of country, blues, and Americana. Their first release together, Good Old Horse EP dropped in late July, with notable tracks “Jack-A-Row” “Lexington Ballad”. The pairing of the two musicians works very well: Moreland’s vocals have a striking tonal clarity, while multi-instrumentalist Monko’s accomplished bass adds a greater depth and immediacy to their efforts. Formerly a heavy rock bassist, Monko brings a unique perspective and talented fiddle, mandolin and acoustic guitar work to Moreland’s storytelling lyrics. Gwyneth & Monko are currently unsigned, but as they continue touring and getting their spare sounds out to larger audiences, I think we will soon see a label eager to add Gwyneth & Monko to their roster. – Written by JFelton
