Cast Spells – Bright Works and Baton

  • September 20, 2010

This is an album I’ve been meaning to review for a while but for whatever reason wasn’t able too. As if David Davison isn’t busy enough with his bands Maps & Atlases and Hey!Tonal, under the guise of Cast Spells, his solo indie folk side project, he released Bright Works and Baton EP. Recorded in only one week down in the basement of his childhood home, “Bright Works and Baton” is an accessible album with descriptive lyrics, hard-hitting guitar and catchy drum beats; standout singles include “Glamorous Glowing” and “War Story Hellos.” Bright Works and Baton doesn’t grab immediate hold of you, but it is a likeable album that grows with every listen. Davison’s talent is evident from his many endeavors, and I eagerly expect bigger and better things as Cast Spells matures. – Written by JFelton
