David Vertesi – Cardiography

  • March 6, 2011

Better known for playing bass in the Vancouver indie band Hey Ocean!, David Vertesi’s solo debut, Cardiography, is a lovely and personal set of songs that have an unassuming beginning but are really quite affecting. Vertesi’s folk-pop songs balance simple instrumentation with introspective lyrics about love that feel so easy and natural, you’d think he was a seasoned solo artist with a much longer discography. “All Night, All Night, All Night” is a beautiful mid-tempo track with rich acoustic guitar keeping time to Vertesi’s rich voice and delivery, which has been loosely compared to fellow countryman Leonard Cohen. Standout tracks include the narrative “Gentlemen Say,” and catchy title track “Cardiography” and album opener “Mountainside.” Any fans of thoughtful, acoustic folk should definitely check this one out. – Written by DBosket
