Peter Bjorn and John – Gimme Some

  • March 6, 2011

Peter Bjorn and John are back with their sixth album, Gimme Some, which marks a move away from cute indie ballads and a step toward more straightforward power pop. Responsible for the incredibly catchy, whistling “Young Folks,” this Swedish trio seems to have done it again. This follow-up to 2009’s Living Thing is a strong set of tightly composed songs inspired by ‘60s Brit rock that are, for the most part, pretty upbeat and satisfying on repeat listening. “Second Chance” is one of the catchiest songs on Gimme Some, with some addicting “oohs” and crowd-pleasing cowbell. “Breaker Breaker” displays an ability to go the punk rock route (albeit in a pretty polite manner) while “Tomorrow Has To Wait” is a more serious track tethered by the chant, “I don’t think you are sorry for what you did,” and a steady beat. – Written by DBosket
