Gravel Road – Mississippi Time

  • October 24, 2019

Mississippi Time – the seventh studio release from Seattle-based heavy blues rockers Gravel Road – is a reverb tinged album with hypnotic rhythms and rousing psychedelic deep-blues. To quote the bands Bandcamp page, the LP “blends the trance of North Mississippi Hill Country Blues with the fuzz and power of heavy rock and roll.” Mississippi Time was recorded and mixed during the Fall of 2016 at Dial Back Sound in Water Valley, Mississippi. Standout tracks include: the reverberating opener “My Baby’s Tryin’”; the Led Zeppelin-tinged “Roll Me Like A Stone”; the heavy psych blues track “Demonstar”; the fuzzed-out rocker “Get It Right”; the scorching Hill Country Blues stomp “Left Me Twice”; the bluesy stoner jam “149 Delta”; the lovelorn “Bleeding Well”; and the finger-picked closer “I Feel High.” Geography is not a barrier for this PNW band, whose authentic southern blues does the genre right and results in enjoyable album. – Written by JFelton
