Hackles – A Dobritch did as a Dobritch Should

  • December 27, 2019

A Dobritch did as a Dobritch Should is the second album from Astoria, Oregon’s Hackles (the duo of Kati Claborn and Luke Ydstie) and the follow-up to the excellent The Twilight’s Calling It Quits. Where their debut album featured beautifully sparse arrangements with lovely harmonies and vocal interplay, this album took a much more collaborative approach where the duo invited friends from the local music community to create a more robust sound. Notable tracks include: the gorgeous opening track “Seven Lies”; the twangy “The Show Goes On”; the gentle “Peaches”; the worker’s lament on “Dominoes”; the 70’s AM radio vibed “Dragon or a Bird”; the tender “The Empty Cups”; and the poignant closer “86 Pages of Secrets.” A Dobritch did as a Dobritch Should is a mesmerizingly indie folk album and an enjoyable listen all the way through. – Written by JFelton
