Kacy and Clayton – Carrying On

  • December 18, 2019

Saskatchewan folk duo and cousins Kacy and Clayton have released their fifth album in nine years – Carrying On – the follow-up to their acclaimed 2017 Jeff Tweedy produced The Siren’s Song. Here Tweedy again takes on the role of producer, helping transition their sound from English folk to a more Americana folk-rock sound. The recording was primarily live off the floor, with a subtle rhythm section that enriches the sound created around the pristine vocals of Kacy Anderson and the multi-instrumental skills of Clayton Linthicum. Album standouts include: the opening lament “The Forty-Ninth Parallel”; the pastoral “The South Saskatchewan River”; the intense heartbreaker “In a Time of Doubt”; the heart-rending tune “Mom and Dad’s Waltz #2”; and the celebratory tune, “That Sweet Orchestra Sound.” Kacy and Clayton’s Carrying On is easily the one of the top albums of the year and a welcome addition to a near perfect discography! – Written by JFelton
