Lockport, New York’s Handsome Jack returns for their third full-length album Everything’s Gonna Be Alright minus guitarist Phil Allport. Despite the loss of a member, Everything’s Gonna Be Alright doesn’t miss a beat with the trio’s hard-grooving mix of blues, R&B, and garage rock. Where Handsome Jack’s first outing Do What Comes Naturally had a loose garage jam quality, Everything’s Gonna Be Alright is a bit more polished with emphasis on blues style vocals, funky rhythms, and energetic and varied guitar work. Album standouts include: the Creedence-esque southern rock track “Keep On”; the hard-driving bluesy number, “Holding Out”; the upbeat “Baby Be Cool”; the title track; and the soulful groove of “Why Do I Love You the Way I Do.” Handsome Jack’s focus on songcraft and less on jamming out really pays off for them on Everything’s Gonna Be Alright. – Written by JFelton
