Interpol – Interpol

  • September 10, 2010

I am the first to admit that I was hugely into Interpol’s 2002 debut Turn On the Bright Lights and hung on for Antics, their follow-up two years later. But when Our Love to Admire came around in 2007, I and many others lost interest in the New York band that had so deftly channeled Joy Division and made some incredible, dark and brooding music. Well, happily, Interpol is back in fighting form with their fourth and self-titled album. Vocalist Paul Banks and drummer Sam Fogarino have said they feel like the band has turned a new leaf and are feeling refreshed. This sense of renewal can be heard on the album, especially “Lights” and “Barricade.” Banks’ drone-y delivery and introspective lyrics are as good as they’ve ever been. This is an album that will make longtime fans happy and attract some newcomers as well. – Written by DBosket
