Judson McKinney – Tangled Wire

  • September 6, 2010

Los Angeles via Clemson, South Carolina singer/songwriter Judson McKinney makes his solo debut with Tangled Wire – a country tinged rock album with some Britpop influences. Better known as one half of the husband-wife duo Judson & Mary, McKinney writes thoughtful mellow folk/country flavored songs full of playfulness and southern charm. Judson’s twangy yet gentle vocals show off his ability to sing with both depth and range. “Every Now and Then” starts in with foot tapping drums, guitar and piano, while “Half and Half” brings a retro touch of 70’s rock and soul complete with “do di di do” chorus, and title track Tangled Wire is a soft, haunting tune. Although the McKinney’s music is not widely known, I think it’s just a matter of time before his music catches on in the Americana/roots music scene and should be pleasing to fans of Gillian Welch, older Wilco and Tim Easton. – Written by JFelton
