La Sera – La Sera

  • March 17, 2011

Vivian Girls bassist/vocalist Katy Goodman takes the light and spacey route with her side project, La Sera. This full-length has elements of shoegaze, ‘60s pop, and folk-pop as each track floats on like a hazy dream moving at a snail’s pace. The retro ‘60s sound works best on the more upbeat tracks like “Sleeptalking” and “Left This World,” which sounded like a She & Him song if Zooey Deschanel had a bad case of laryngitis. Goodman’s soft vocals are definitely sweet and melancholy, but sometimes don’t pack much of a punch. That said, I truly enjoy the sad, nostalgic vibe that this album puts out, and would recommend it to anyone who’s feeling a little blue. – Written by DBosket
