Pepper Rabbit – Beauregard

  • November 23, 2010

Los Angeles-based Pepper Rabbit makes a strong impression with its debut full length, Beauregard. Led by multi-instrumentalist Xander Singh, Pepper Rabbit plays lo-fi, experimental folk that fits in well with the wave of indie bands such as Freelance Whales, Hey Marseilles, and Suckers. Singh, along with bassist Shay Spence and drummer Luc Laurent play beautiful songs that use a range of instruments like banjo, ukelele and horns that create a slightly quirky, off-kilter sound that really clicks when combined with the songs’ interesting melodies and Singh’s poignant vocals. Standout tracks include opening track “Clarinet Song,” which starts off with an attention-getting and unique sweeping clarinet intro, and “Harvest Moon,” a definite upbeat crowd-pleaser that has some great banjo and horns. – Written by DBosket
