We Were Promised Jetpacks – These Four Walls

  • October 16, 2010

Taking a cue from fellow Glasgow natives Frightened Rabbits and the Twilight Sad, We Were Promised Jetpacks have emerged as another band of depressed Scots. This album, the band’s debut, presents its own take on post-punk while also picking up on some of the lyrical intricacies of Frightened Rabbit, in particular. Songs like “It’s Thunder and It’s Lightning” and “Quiet Little Voices” give the band room to allow its noisy, guitar-driven material to emerge and vibrate a bit, demonstrating the band’s capability to leave a lasting impression on the ears and the soul. The sound may be familiar, but We Were Promised Jetpacks have hollowed out a distinct spot of their own in the Scottish rock scene. – Written by AWagner
