Robert Ellis is the Texas Piano Man

  • February 15, 2019

Texas guitarist and singer/songwriter Robert Ellis returns with Texas Piano Man following his acclaimed 2016 self-titled album. The eleven-song collection that comprises the LP were largely written by Ellis, who also co-produced the album with Niles City Sound (Leon Bridges) in Fort Worth. Known as a highly accomplished guitarist, Ellis changes things up this time around by showcasing his piano skills. Dressed from top to bottom in an all-white tuxedo, Ellis clearly embraces his role as a country troubadour, mixing Gram Parsons style writing with honky-tonk alongside the piano sensibilities of Leon Russell and Elton John. Notable tracks include: the lead single, “Fucking Crazy”; the witty tracks “Nobody Smokes Anymore” and “Passive Aggressive”; the tearjerker “Aren’t We Supposed to Be in Love”; the bittersweet “When You’re Away”; and the closing song, “Topo Chico.” Yet again, Robert Ellis releases an excellent album with Texas Piano Man. – Written by JFelton
