Known briefly as Brass Cups before changing their name to Steel Phantoms, this Brooklyn band has been building up a lot of goodwill with a steady list of shows in New York and the greater northeastern region and one of more anticipated shows to catch at last year’s CMJ festival. Comprised of former Islands drummer Aaron Harris, Yos Munro (keyboard/vocals) and Jesse Newkirk (guitar), Steel Phantoms lets their quirky side come through with charming keyboard melodies, unpredictable beats and brash guitar. Longtime friends Harris and Munro have been playing together off and on for years since their high school days in Pittsburgh, which is not a surprise as this is a great debut EP with five totally charming, fresh-sounding music that never wears thin or feels weak. – Written by DBosket
